Mercedes-Benz G 55 AMG

Super-G: supreme on city streets and off-road

• 5.5 liter eight-cylinder engine with 260 kW/354 hp
• Good ride comfort with superior off-road properties

Top speed of over 200 km/h on the road and one of the world’s best all-terrain vehicles across country: that’s the G 55 AMG produced by newly-formed DaimlerChrysler subsidiary, Mercedes-AMG GmbH. Although the G 55 AMG has the driving performance of a fast sedan, it also offers the superior off-road qualities of a thoroughbred all-terrain vehicle.

At its heart is the eight-cylinder engine using modern three-valves-per-cylinder technology from Mercedes-Benz. Mercedes-AMG engineers at Affalterbach in Swabia increase the displacement to 5,439 cubic centimeters. This boosts the power to 260 kW/354 hp.

Even more important for the convincing power development in all driving situations is the torque increase to 525 Nm at 3,000 rpm. In conjunction with the electronically controlled five-speed automatic gearbox, the G 55 AMG thus reaches a top speed of 209 km/h and sprints from zero to 100 km/h in 7.4 seconds.

An antilock braking system assists the driver. Driver and passenger airbag, power exterior mirrors, outside temperature display, reading lights front and rear, leather trim, fine wood in the cockpit, heated seats and power seat adjustment are all part of the standard specification. A navigation system, reversing sensors with a light display, fuel-powered auxiliary heating, trailer hitch mounting and heated rear seats are available as optional extras.

Anyone buying an G 55 AMG can decide whether to ride in a short, nimble station wagon with three doors, the long model with five doors and consi-derably more stowage space, or the cabriolet with its electro-hydraulic folding soft-top.
