Land Rover Swivel Housing Gaiter Kit

Whether to fit Gaiters over your Swivel Pins has been a well debated subject for many years. If you keep your vehicle in pretty good order and well maintained then arguably you should not need gaiters. But how many of us check our Swivel Pin oil levels regularly and keep the chromed surface of the pin clean and free from grit.

Once the chrome starts to go you will never stop it and the rusted surface will quickly eat away at the oil seal and you will lose your oil.

The British army have had the old leather 'lace-up' gaiters fitted to their vehicles for a long time as their vehicles can be deployed in a variety of different environments, from extreme wet to extreme dry and everything in between.

This new Gaiter Kit from BAILCAST is a very worthwhile accessory for your Land Rover. It will keep all the nasty stuff off your swivels and make them last a lot longer. The kits are designed to be fitted to the vehicle with as little fuss as possible and you do not have to remove the hubs or seals etc The Gaiters are split allowing you to fit them in place and glue them together once on the vehicle.

Everything you could possibly need is supplied in the box: Two Split Gaiters, Glue, Rubber Gloves (to keep the surface to be glued as clean as possible) and clamps to hold them tight.

The whole kit costs £50.00 and they are available for all Land Rover models

	We fitted the Gaiters to our Project 110 during the course of a hub assembly rebuild so we glued the two ends together prior to fitting.
	The rubber material is very pliable and easily stretched over the swivel assembly
	Once in place the seal clamp can be re-fitted and tightened up
	The thin metal 'clamp' supplied is very effective at keeping everything tight and in place. We noted that it would be very difficult to remove these afterwards without possibly damaging the gaiter. If you think you might need to remove them for some reason in the near future you might consider using a jubilee clib instead.
	BAILCAST also do a replacement "One-Shot' Swivel Grease that is supposed to replace the usual oil and be used as a fill-and-forget solution. It is slightly thicker than the standard oils and is designed to outlive the life of the vehicle. The only problem we had with this was that with the grease being thicker than normal oil it made it very difficult to get it all into the housing. The PVC bottle was quite stiff. Our solution was to warm the bottle slightly by standing it in hot water to make the grease more viscous. Their Grease costs £5.00 per 370ml bottle and you will need one bottle for each swivel housing.
