the MRD on this 110 is fitted with brackets to hold a Hi-Lift Jack, a removeable Warn Winch and a protective screen to stop the worst of any really sludgy water getting through to your radiator.

There is also an MRD for the rear of a Defender with equally versatile recovery point fixtures

Every so often there comes along a bit of kit that is so simple and so useful you have to wonder why no one had ever thought of it before. The Modular Recovery Device (MRD) from Marshland Off-Road Ltd. is just such an item.

Basically it is a hefty 'sleeve' that fitrs around the steel bumper found on Defenders and older Series Land Rovers. That sleeve comes complete with several threaded sockets which can be used to bolt on various recovery points, lashing eyes, shackles, towing brackets, winches, lighting etc.

And when you've finished your day's off-roading they all simply unbolt leaving just the sleeve in place with no protruding parts that may pose a risk to pedestrians or other vehicles.

Now you may wonder whether this type of system will live up to the rigours of hard and constant use. All that we can say to that is that Marshland Offroad have EVERY single component individually tested, rated and stamped with a unique serial number and issue you with a certificate proving the fact from an independent specialist company.

If you get a hold of their promotional CD ROM you will also be able to watch a video of their own Land Rover 90 being hoisted way up into the air by a crane attached solely to a towing eye bolted to their MRD. (see pictures Below)

Not content with just providing a device to which you can bolt the various recovery points, Marshland have also developed a carrier for a Winch so that you can attach and remove it as necessary. Accompanied by an MRD designed for the rear of a Land Rover means that your standard Hydraulic or Electric winch can instantly become removeable and attached to either the front or rear of the vehicle.

And it doesn't end there, Marshland Off-Road are also developing a receiver plate that can be bolted inside the vehicle to stow the winch safely whilst not in use.

I could go on all day telling you of the various options and facilities this bit of kit will give you and I cannot think of anything they have not thought of.

The only possible weak link in the whole set up is the fact that you are obviously relying on the fact that your bumber is securely and adequately fixed to your chassis.

And the price for this piece of wonder kit?
