The ES1000 is at the careful end of the expenditure range. At somewhere near £26.00 each for all you need, even my Yorkshire blood doesnt cry out.
Now before I start a tsunami of complaints from up North let me state this. Yorkshiremen and women are not mean or tight - in fact they are some of the nicest people on this planet and I am proud to be even as lowly a thing as a half breed Yorkshireman. The thing is they are alarmingly sensible with their money.
Anyway, back to shocks. The ES1000 is not a gas assisted shock, it doesnt have double flange return frumpet pinion glands and it wont make you irresistible to women. The ES1000 is a no nonsense budget replacement shock for four wheel drive vehicles.
The set we were supplied with were fitted to our project SJ410 in less than fifteen minutes. The reason behind this being that the original shocks were totally FUBAR. In fact I removed two with my bare hands alone!
Two days later the SJ was buzzing its way to Monte Blanc for a 500 mile Randonee.
Not only did the little sewing machine keep up with vehicles with three or even four times the engine capacity and coil springs aplenty but also it put them to shame in the rough stuff. We broke a gearbox and a transfer box and buckled a spring along the way but did we have any shock trouble? Did we hell!
Interestingly enough a little snippet of info for you serious off-roaders out there who are on a tight budget:
The standard replacement front ES1000 for an SJ 410/413/Samurai has a shock body the same length as the original but gives almost two inches more droop than standard
Think about it.
We hope to be testing a set of ES9000 Pro-comp shocks soon so keep your eyes peeled.
