COBRA UK 29 LTD CB

One of the most important, and possibly life saving, item of equipment on an off road expedition or green lane trip is a CB. You cannot rely on Mobile Phones if you are out in the middle of nowhere. A CB also saves you the hassle of constantly stopping to talk to other members of your group.

We contacted Communication Eleven in Surrey, UK to get their advice on CBs for our Project 110. They specialise in communications equipment for 4x4 vehicles and are always happy to help. No matter what 4x4 you drive they can supply the ideal system for you. Telephone 01737 245840 or Request their free catalogue!

First impressions out of the box are very good. The front is finished with a silver panel and chrome banding and benefits from having the microphone connection on the front panel rather than down the left side of the radio which gives much more ease for mobile mounting, and mobile operation without getting the microphone wire tangled up in your gear levers.

Front Panel

The front panel consists of an analogue signal meter, channel display in green LED form, channel selector, on/off switch with squelch, RF gain and Dyna Mic control, 5 position tone switch, dimmer, SWR Calibration and finally a UK & EU switch. These are all in the form of rotary knobs finished in chrome.

Across the top of the front panel are five switches: (from left to right) NB/ANL, ANL, OFF (3 position switch), CB/PA (2 position switch), Delta+, 0, Delta- (3 position switch), Ch19, Ch9, Normal (3 position switch), S/R, SWR, CAL (3 position switch). And the unique Cobra Sound Tracker button and above this are two LEDs, one for RX/TX and the next one is a red LED which illuminates when the sound tracker is in operation.

Rear Panel

The rear panel only has the usual 3.5mm PA connection and extension speaker connection. The standard 3-pin cobra power lead connection and an SO239 antenna socket.

General Appearance

The radio looks very impressive. The knobs and switches are easily accessible and everything is easy to use without reading the handbook! (typical bloke's comment)

The microphone is large and slightly bulky considering this is designed to be a mobile radio.

Then there is the Nightwatch System - as it gets dark the front silver panel goes black and the knobs and writing on the fascia light up in green enabling it to be seen clearly without dazzling the driver.

Costs: £130.00
