Editor's Comment . . .

• It's not often something comes along that can save us all money - guaranteed! - so why are so few of us taking advantage of LPG fuel, it costs 50% less than Petrol or Diesel and is better for the environment too. Read our LPG articles this month and if you're still not convinced then you must have really deep pockets to continue paying double the amount necessary for your fuel.

• Now that the Foot & Mouth disaster seems to be retreating from most areas, the countryside is opening up again and many of the previously postponed events are getting the go ahead. Its going to be a pretty hectic couple of months as show organisers try to cram everything into our notoriously short summer but from here on in you're guaranteed some off-road action every weekend! I just hope you've used this period of forced inactivity wisely and sorted out all those fiddly little maintenance jobs that we all tend to put off.

• Also this month we start a great new series on Off-Road Driving, written with the 'normal' 4x4 driver in mind we give you the tips and techniques you really need without blinding you with science.

Finally, we will be at most of the shows this year so if you see us come and have a chat.

Best Regards

Simon Ward-Hastelow

LPG
It used to be a simple choice, you either filled up with Diesel or Petrol, and whichever you used you begrudged paying the tax on it. In the UK 78% of the price paid at the pump is TAX! Now we have a third choice: LPG (Liquid Petroleum Gas) it is half the price of the other two and just as easy to use.

So why aren't more vehicles being converted to run on LPG? We try to answer some of your questions, dispell the myths and give a few examples of LPG conversions.

It's not just for the Petrol Heads either - Diesel 4x4s can also benefit from using LPG . . . read on!

LANDMASTER 4x4
We found an interesting brochure recently whilst searching through the motoring archives. The LandMaster 4x4. Developed in the late 70's as a real contender to take on the Land Rover Crown. Many of it's features were incorporated into the Land Rover 110 introduced some years later.

PROJECTS:

  • 110 - Fitting a Radio or CB into a Land Rover has never been easy and even the manufacturers solutions can look clumsy. We decided to try something a little different.
  • TRAILER - Having straightened the chassis we thought we better test whether our 'unorthodox' suspension set up would actually work - by loading it with 1000 kg of concrete blocks!

EVENTS:

  • LRE Billing Show - The World's largest Land Rover Event is upon us. the Sponsors name may have changed but it's the same place, same time and same organisers as previous years - you cannot afford to miss it!

USED 4x4s

  • Landrover Discovery 1
  • Vauxhall Fronterra
  • Lada Niva

NEW 4x4s

  • Mitsubishi Airtrek

PRODUCT REVIEWS:

  • Bronco Diamond Back Tyres
  • Ironman Dampers
  • Edelbrock Performer Dampers
  • Safety Devices Discovery II Roof Rack
  • Safety Devices 110 Double Cab Roll Cage

OFF-ROAD DRIVING - NEW SERIES!

  • Starting our new series with PREPARATION

OFF-ROAD MOTORSPORT:

  • All the latest news and events from the Off-Road Motorsport world

MILITARY 4x4s

  • The ASA Guardian - Italy is more renowned for its sports cars rather than its off-roaders, even less for its Military Vehicles. But we found a very interesting exception to the rule based on a FIAT platform
