LANDMASTER 4x4

While searching through the motoring archives recently we came across a very interesting brochure from the late 1970's for a vehicle called the Land Master.

We do not have many details for the vehicle other than those printed on the brochure but it looked like a serious contender for the Land Rover Crown. Many of the specifications offered were later found in the newly launched 110.

There were two accompanying letters with the brochure to a prospective client dated 1978 and 1983. The latter read :

Over recent years you have expressed an interest in the above vehicle programme, together with many other individuals and organisations, having seemingly been unable to find an acceptable vehicle for your needs in the ‘light 4 X 4’ category from the established manufacturers.

Some twelve months ago I made a random survey of past enquirers to verify if this interest was still alive, or whether one of the many recent imports had satisfied their requirements. It was most interesting to find that there was still a market need for a vehicle of the Land Master’s capability. Nearly 50% of those contacted responded with a positive reply, reflecting the continuing market need for a vehicle of the Land Master’s performance.

The Land Master 4 X 4 has changed a great deal from it’s initial design in the late ‘70s as the enclosed brochure well illustrates. Economies of scale together with a committed aim of reliable and capable operation, has resulted in a vehicle that has already proven to be acceptable to a total cross—section of end users; from agriculture and open-cast mining, to Police surveillance work. Local and Central Government authorities are also expressing increasing interest in the Land Master, and with this growing demand for the vehicle following rigorous proving trials, it has been decided to expand production in new facilities here in South Wales.

As one of the early enquirers for the Land Master, I am writing to inform you of this latest development before it is made public, in order that you may provisionally order your vehicle in advance of the anticipated strong demand.

Production is targeted for approximately 50 vehicles in 1985/84, rising rapidly to 500 units per annum in the medium term. It is intended to have at least one demonstration vehicle available in November of this year, which will primarily be used for demonstration to those having already placed a provisional order, and are prepared to confirm their intent upon physical evaluation of the product.

I trust that you will find the enclosed brochure on the Land Master 4 X 4 vehicle range of interest and will be pleased to provide any additional information that you may require.
