DRAINPLUG
Every so often you find a product and it makes you think "Why didn't anyone think of this before?" The Drain Plug is just such a product, although it's not new at all, they've been used for years in large engined vehicles like busses, heavy plant, marine engines and large trucks.
It is a very simple solution to the age old problem we all face when changing our oil. You just know as soon as you remove the sump plug the oil is going to go everywhere. On some vehicles this is literally the case, it goes over axles, anti-roll bars, exhausts, chassis, and anything else that might be in the way.

The DrainPlug eliminates this messy situation. All you have to do is replace the sump plug with as drain plug. Then when you next need to drain the oil you can easily control both the speed and direction of the flow of waste oil and even drain it straight into a suitable container to be disposed of cleanly and without contaminating anything else.
The Drain Plug has a threaded Dust Cap when fitted to the vehicle to protect the plug, there are three O ring seals in the DrainPlug: in the cap, around the exterior of the plug and inside the valve itself.

When you next come to drain the oil you unscrew the dustcap and attach the Flexible Drain Hose. As the hose is tightened onto the DrainPlug it releases the valve inside and allows the oil to drain in a controlled way. And that's all there is to it.

Attach the hose and tighten with fingers

as you continue to turn the hose cap it, so the valve opens

When it's completely on the valve is fully opened to allow maximum oil flow.

Heres a simple illustration of how it works.
As far as we can see the only down sides are that as you are narrowing the aperture for through which the oil flows you will slow down the flow, but if the your oil is regularly changed and at just below engine temperature when it's drained this will not be too noticable.
The benefits more than make up for this. Clean and easy being the biggest plus points, but also if your sump plug is in a very hard to reach place or behind a sump guard for instance then the benefits are even greater. Also as the DrainPlug is permanently fitted there is less of a risk of you cross threading the Sump Plug and damaging the Sump, a particular problem with Aluminium Sumps.
Drainplugs are available in all shapes and sizes to suit pretty well any engine and gearbox
