The 3rd annual London to Brighton Land Rover Run

For the poor people of brighton, it seems there is not a week goes by without there being some form of London to Brighton event taking place. The biggest - and longest running - is the annual Veteran Car run but there's also the Mini Run the Charity Cycle Ride and now there's the Land Rover Run.

Organised by the South London and Surrey Land Rover Club it is now a firm favourite in the calendar. The first run was in 1999 and just 60 vehicles took part, this year over 600 made the 60 mile journey from Crystal Palace to the sea front at Brighton. For many who took part the 60 miles of the actual run was the shortest part of their journey, coming as they did from all over the country.

Every Land Rover model and year was represented from the earliest 1948 Series 1's to a couple of Freelanders to the Lara Croft Tomb Raider Land Rover Defender and everything in between.

this event is definately not a race - how could it be in a vehicle with a top speed of 50mph - it is the atmosphere of the whole event that makes it an event not to be missed. Starting early Saturday evening at the camp site at Crystal Palace, to breakfast early Sunday morning, the drive itself - which takes anywhere between 1 and 2 hours - to the action packed events in Brighton and all the fun of the fair on Brighton Pier.

SLS had organised many more events at the Brighton end this year from competitions, concourse vehicles, displays, trade stands selling everything from a flag to a new Range Rover and the running commentary throughout the day from Diana Andrews from Off Road Motorsport Magazine.

<sexist comment coming up> Just to digress for a moment, we have been to many events throughout the summer and at nearly every one of them Diana Andrews is running the show and providing the commentary in the central arenas. It never ceases to amaze us how she keeps it up. We all love our vehicles but to keep talking non-stop ALL DAY could only be done by a woman! <end of sexist comment>

If the event keeps increasing in popularity like it has been doing then next year could see more than a thousand vehicles turning up
