Clean Air Power , the global leader in the provision of a unique technology combining diesel and natural gas to power commercial vehicles, has now completed trials into the benefits of integrating versus retro-fitting its products, and the results are likely to have the heavy transport industry sitting up and taking notice.

In recent UK trials, vehicles using Clean Air Power’s Genesis Dual-Fuel™ retro-fit system have demonstrated a 50% gas substitution, with a cost saving of 5p/km, or £10,000 per vehicle per year, and a CO2 saving of 8.4 tonnes a year, based on 200,000km annual mileage.

From its database, Clean Air Power can demonstrate that a contemporary integrated system will deliver  at least 70% overall gas substitution, giving fuel savings of 9p/km or £17,000 per vehicle per year, and a CO2 saving of 26 tonnes a year (based on the same annual mileage) .  These figures are justified in Australia, where long distance road trains, equipped with integrated products are achieving fuel cost savings of up to £40,000 per truck p.a.

Further to this, Clean Air Power’s integrated C12 product has already been certified to Euro 4, from a Euro 3  C12 diesel base engine, demonstrating the significant emissions reduction potential of the technology.

Clean Air Power is currently talking to a number of Europe’s leading truck makers regarding this issue, with a view to producing a manufacturer branded and supported integrated product.  It is urging other manufacturers to contact them, as they can provide an immediate solution to cutting emissions within the heavy transport industry.

“There is a very real opportunity for vehicle manufacturers here with a proven product that requires no changes to the base engine and only minor hardware changes, ” says John Pettitt, CEO of Clean Air Power.

Using the same natural gas that we cook with every day, Clean Air Power delivers an immediate, safe and cost-effective solution to reduce emissions.

Customers using or conducting trials of its retro-fit system include: Tesco, Co-operative Retail Logistics, Warburtons Bakery, Murray Goulburn, and Mexico City.

“With increasing concern over the environment highlighted by the recent Stern Review Report, the transport industry needs to be at the forefront of innovations to limit further environmental damage.  1600-plus vehicles worldwide have already been equipped with our retro-fit system, benefiting from significantly reduced CO2 emissions and fuel consumption.

“Integrating the product at the manufacturing stage provides superior gas substitution, vehicle performance, and CO2 and cost savings, giving manufacturers the opportunity to produce vehicles that meet a demand that can only continue to grow.  Our Dual-Fuel™ products allow commercial vehicle manufacturers and users to put tomorrow’s technology on our roads today, and we would welcome contact from any manufacturer interested in discussing the integrated system,” concludes Pettitt.
