Land Rover Discovery 300tdi: An off-road conversion - Part 5
9th Sep 2009

GENERAL REPAIRS AND MAINTENANCE

A bit of TLC was also necessary with my Discovery and when I made the list of all the parts I needed, I knew that I had to be clever to not break my budget…

We are talking gaskets, seals, etc… they cost peanuts individually, but when you add a lot of them the bill starts to grow…

I had to find a cheaper supplier than LR Genuine parts but not compromised too much on the quality. Britpart (www.britpart.co.uk) is just that sort of supplier. They distribute all Land Rover parts you may want, from gaskets to body parts, and they have they own lines of off-road accessories such as the winches.

You can buy Britpart products via a very large network of retailers.

I also had to change a large number of rusted nuts and bolts. The usual mainstream DIY shop are good, but the choice is limited. So I went to a well known nuts&bolts supplier called Stig’s Stainless Fasteners (www.a2stainless.co.uk)

The choice is great, and if you don’t know the exact spec of the missing nuts, you just send an email explaining what you are looking for, et voila… 2 days later it’s in your mailbox.

Stainless steel will also mean that I should have less trouble next time I need to undo those very tight fasteners.
