Comma Oil are a very well known brand for their engine oils and other related products. But did you know that their portfolio of automotive products goes a lot further than that.

  • Coolant
  • Screenwash
  • Automotive cleaning products
  • Glass treatment
  • Additives
  • Hand treatment
  • Maintenance consumables
  • Oils and lubricants

I have had the chance to put my hand on some of their products over the last few months.

Car Valeting product – AA Car Care

I spend a lot of money to keep my cars clean. Firstly, because I can not stand to leave them dirty for long, secondly because I need to keep them clean for photoshoots and shows and finally because it you look after your car, it will look after you (anyway, this is my belief).

I came across the AA Car Care range of products which seemed to be an interesting pick. In addition to be color coded with my yellow Discovery (bling, bling!!!), this set of sprays met my requirements for the Wasp:

  • Wash n’Wash is a 2-in-1 product which produce some good results in cleaning all the after-winter dirt from the Discovery and left a nice glossy finish. I did not have to spend another couple of hours polishing the entire body.
  • Glass Cleaner, does what it says on the tin and the odour is actually pleasant (slight lemon fragrance)
  • Wheel Cleaner was powerful enough to remove most of the dirt, but I’ve had better products in the past…
  • Tyre Cleaner, that I liked a lot. It helped cleaning the tyre and revitalize the colour without leaving a very glossy appearance.
  • Trim Cleaner which a good cleaner for most surface, nothing bad (or great) to report.
  • Upholstery Cleaner, which is a type of products that I’m always a bit unsure about (strange smell, leave marks, etc). This one was good, similar smell to the glass cleaner (so no weird combination), and the seats came out pretty clean without any remaining bad stains.

All considered, if you are looking for a good valeting kit without going for the of best-of-breed in each category, this one should definitively be in your shortlist.

RainClear gel

I used a similar product in the past but I did not like it a lot as, after a while, it was leaving a film on the wipers themselves and was therefore affecting their performance.

But I wanted to test the Comma Rain Clear Gel.

It works by sealing the microscopic pores on the windscreen by creating an invisible barrier that repels water on contact. This film also helps keeping your windscreen clean from the road dirt, insects, salt, etc.

The application requires you to do a very good job in cleaning the surface with a good glass cleaner, then you can apply the gel, and finally “polish” it with a dry cloth or one of the wipes provided with the gel.

I found the product working well, especially at motorway speed with the fast flow of air pushing the water droplets out. The official recommended application frequency is about once a month, I would say that three weeks is a better bet if you want to retain full performance. I am also pleased with my wipers not clogging up with gel…

FogClear Gel

This product prevents the fogging on windscreens, side or rear windows.

Application is simple as long as you clean the glass properly before application.

I tested it properly when carrying a wet dog (hot and steaming from a long walk)   in the boot of my car during the winter. The rear and side windows that would usually get all misty within a couple of minutes (despite running the aircon system at full blast), managed to stay almost 100% clear all the time. I was very impressed by the result.

I did three applications since March, but this is mainly due to the fact that I clean the windows on a regular basis. You can also use it on your bathroom mirrors !
